Metric on Writing for Robert Pattinson Films - Fuse Music Week Live from Radio City Music Hall
Before we caught Metric's amazing set last night at Radio City Music Hall as part of Fuse Music Week, members Emily Haines and James Shaw gave a wide-ranging interview to Yasmine Richard about creating the band's latest album Synthetica (expanding on our recent Q&A with the singer),meeting Lou Reed, hanging out with Robert Pattinson and Haines' first trip to Radio City to see Dionne Warwick.
"My parents brought me in and it really cracks me up because fluorescent was really in at that time and then this summer, when it came around New York, I was like, ‘I can’t. I’m not doing this, you guys,'" says Haines. "This happened the year that I went to see Dionne Warwick. I’m not going back."
Haines also dispelled oft-told stories about Reed's storied crankiness. “There’s a real chemistry with us," Haines says of Reed, who joined the group last night for "The Wanderlust" and Velvet Underground's "Pale Blue Eyes." "The thing that people have misunderstood about Lou Reed throughout his life is that he’s a very kind man. He doesn’t have any patience, at least in the stage of his life that I’m meeting him in, for any kind of bulls—t. He’s a really warm guy.”
The same can be said for Robert Pattinson, whose films Twilight: Eclipse and Cosmopolis have both featured music from the band. "We ended up meeting the guy and hanging out with him and he’s a really good person," Haines says. "He’s become a bit of a friend,” adds Shaw.

MTV 'Twilight' Tuesday takes a look at the final film's music, which also includes a track from Iko.
Hey, fellow "Twilight" fans! Do you know we are less than two months away from "Breaking Dawn - Part 2"? Time (hopefully) flies when you're eagerly anticipating the conclusion to an epic franchise.
Last week, we had the "Twilight" marathon news to be excited about, in addition to Kristen Stewart's teasery about a possible surprise ending. This week's "Twilight" Tuesday is dedicated to some speculation about the movie's music, specifically which artists might make it onto the final soundtrack.
Perri’s currently on tour with Jason Mraz, and in promoting her shows she spoke with 96.5 TIC FM about her involvement with the Sagaand teased, “I might have seen the last film too, and it’s pretty amazing … I might be involved in that. I’m not really allowed to say though… just a hint.”
Confirmed for the soundtrack so far are Iko (“Heart of Stone”) and Passion Pit (“I Think We’ll Be Alright”), the latter of which appears when Bella (Kristen Stewart) wakes up from her transformation.
I am SO excited to hear who is on the soundtrack for Breaking Dawn Part 2! It’s the FINAL one (cries), so it better be good! Who else would love to hear Christina Perri sing one more song for Bella and Edward?
The soundtrack for Cosmopolis reunites composer
Howard Shore and the band METRIC for another cinematic collaboration. While
writing the score for David Cronenberg’s film adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel Cosmopolis,
Shore conceived of a particular live sound to achieve his vision and invited
METRIC to perform the score and co-write three songs. The music was recorded in
November 2011 at the band’s own Giant Studios in Toronto, produced by Howard
Shore and METRIC guitarist Jimmy Shaw, and mixed by John O’Mahony at Liberty
Studios in Toronto and Electric Lady Studios in NYC. The result is an
atmospheric, urban soundscape of analog synths and layered guitars featuring
the hypnotic vocals of METRIC lead singer Emily Haines. The Cosmopolis soundtrack
also features “Mecca” by Somali Singer/Rapper K’NAAN with lyrics by the artist
and Don DeLillo.
The soundtrack album features the songs:
“Long to Live”

“I Don’t Want to Wake Up”
