Into the Woods With Balenciaga

NYTimes    The Balenciaga show was just over as Francois Pinault, the art patron and founder of PPR, slipped out of the backstage, past a throng of waiting guests. A sustained roar followed as the models, still in their outfits, clapped and cheered.

Kristen Stewart arrived for the Balenciaga show.
Two, three minutes went by. Then a security guard ushered in the actress Kristen Stewart, dressed in scribble-print white jeans and a black tank top, a lime-yellow leather jacket slung over her shoulder, to have her moment with Nicolas Ghesquiere.

She talked and talked. Oh, brother. As Mr. Ghesquiere listened, she worked her way from outfit to the next, saying what she liked about it. She skipped nothing and her enthusiasm showed.

Coverage from in and around the Paris shows.
Holding up the line at Balenciaga is understandable, but on Thursday morning, as the Paris shows accelerated, Mr. Ghesquiere put a lot of new options on the runway. In one sense, the lean tailoring and white, squared-off tops, with their Catholic overtones, brought his designs back to his roots at Balenciaga, when the cool clothes attracted a girl force. But in another way, this collection was confidently grown up, as if Mr. Ghesquiere knew he had nothing to prove.

Nicholas Ghesquière Mentions Kristen on Interview

HR: The campaign was shot by Steven Meisel and stars Twilight actress Kristen Stewart, why was she chosen to be the face of the fragrance?
Ghesquière: For me, Kristen Stewart has a very unique personality. I had this special project due for a magazine and I asked her to be a part of that story. That’s how we met. The moment I met her I thought she was so Balenciaga and she had such an interesting personality and a great beauty. I began wishing for her to be part of my story so I kept that in mind, and when we started working on this project, I knew it had to be her.

Kristen Stewart and Nicolas Ghesquière, the intrepid

MadameLefigaro    Between star actress and fashion designer prodigy, it was obvious. These two grow complicity based on agreements of head, heart and base ... No wonder the artistic director of Balenciaga has chosen to embody the beautiful image Florabotanica, the new fragrance house. Confidence artists.

meeting Kristen Stewart is before the "scandal" that has fueled the tabloids international all summer. A Private Affair - adultery revealed by paparazzi: the young woman had had an affair with director Rupert Sanders, married and father - turned to the United States in case of State. The "guilty" had to make a public apology to her boyfriend, the idol Robert Pattinson, "humiliated" by his millions of fans. Tarnished, low morale and Hollywood makes him head ... strange reverse of fate for K-Stew, subject to the ruthless mob while she had managed the feat of tightly lock the intimate sphere.

It is ridiculous to say Puritanism prevailing in the United States, where, in 2012, the fad of a girl of 22 years old can still be built in capital sin and lead to excommunication worthy of the Scarlet Letter. The earth nevertheless continue to turn, Hollywood will miss something else and probably be back with Stewart before long. For all smiles this talented actress, pleasing to the morgue and charisma stressed last June, she took the head of Forbes ranking of the ten highest paid American actresses (27 million euros for the year).

There is something terribly animal at this beautiful girl with green eyes and a deep voice, to whom the world belongs. His appearance was not lost to Nicolas Ghesquière, the very sharp artistic director of Balenciaga, who did not like him to identify atypical or rebels (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jennifer Connelly) and chose Stewart as his muse new women's fragrance, Florabotanica, a baptismal name that refers to the botanical gardens of the eighteenth century in which plant species the rarest and most exotic living together.

Nicholas Ghesquiere (Florabotanica) Talks About Kristen

Coty Prestige has unveiled the new feminine fragrance from the house of Balenciaga. Florabotanica, which is fronted by actress Kristen Stewart, will be available in travel retail worldwide from October.

The edp scent is said to combine the fantastical and ultra-contemporary aspects of the Balenciaga brand. “There is a real duality in Balenciaga, between classicism and experimentation,” noted Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière. “For this new fragrance, I wanted to explore this paradox between the pure and the enigmatic further. A few years ago, I designed this ‘floral collection’. The dresses were covered with flowers, but these flowers were neither charming nor romantic. They structured the whole silhouette. I wanted the flowers in this perfume to express the same idea.”

The name Florabotanica references the 18th century botanical gardens in which the most exotic and rarest plant species were displayed. “It is a secret garden where you find surprising flowers that surpass the imagination,” Ghesquière explained. “They are beautiful but are they really that harmless? Flowers can be cruel, carnivorous or venomous, contain poisons. What would a perfume that contained the charm and mystery of flowers be like? This is the story that we wanted to tell with Florabotanica.”

The juice, composed by Olivier Polge and Jean-Christophe Hérault, features two key accords. The vetiver, amber and caladium leaf accord aims to evoke a resonance of mossy and mysterious dark wood, according to the brand. The rose, carnation and mint accord delivers exhilaration and a juvenile freshness. The rose in question is a hybrid, experimental rose, with its origins in Turkey, to which a formula of “psychosensory plants” has been added.

The fragrance face is actress Kristen Stewart, best known for her role in the blockbuster Twilight saga. Balanciaga chose her for her tetchy youthfulness and rebellious femininity.

“Kristen Stewart has a real personality,” noted Ghesquière. “She captivated me when we met a few years ago. I had not forgotten her. She is the perfect embodiment of a certain idea of Balenciaga: that beauty that is both pure and uncontrollable. We met again for Florabotanica. She is totally this graceful and mysterious figure that symbolises this strange botanical garden.”

The fragrance flacon features graphic black and white stripes, as favoured by Cristóbal Balenciaga. An oversized tube plunges into the middle of the bottle in the style of a laboratory test tube.
