Cosmopolis and On The Road will Compete in Mumbai Film Festival 2012

In recent years the Mumbai Film Festival has been wet dreams for any movie lover. The game was simple - they picked all the winners and nominees of all film festivals in the world. The list this year is not yet revealed but some titles have been confirmed. And through these titles, it seems like they're on track this year too.

Among the biggest are Rust and Bone by Jacques Audiard (was in competition at Cannes), Walter Salles' On The Road and Snow White (Snow White) by Paul Bergera, a reinvention of the classic Brothers Grimm.

 Nandini Ramnath in Mint Lounge has confirmed reports some titles. This includes Amour Michael Haneke, David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis , Ken Loach Share The Angels' Danish films A Royal Affair and The Kauwboy Hunt, and this is the favorite of this year's festival Zeitlin benh Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Festival Dates : 18-25 October, 2012.

Venue : NCPA and INOX. Can anyone confirm if Cinemax Versova will also have screenings or not?

Shifting the venue to South Bombay is a strange decision when the film industry and related people seems to be mostly from suburbs. If you had been to Cinemax Versova for last year’s fest, you know the kind of crowd it attracted. And at the same time screenings at Metro and Cinemax Sion were going almost empty. I might be biased because Andheri (west) suits me best and travelling in Bombay is quite exhausting. So putting up a poll here.

Robert Pattinson Says David Michôd's 'The Rover' Is Like An Existential Western

To say that Robert Pattinson has been filling his post-"Twilight" calendar with ambitious films would be an understatement. This weekend brings his trippy David Cronenberg odyssey "Cosmopolis," and over the past few weeks and months, the actor has signed on to a handful of interesting films, including "Mission: Blacklist" about the hunt for Saddam Hussein, Werner Herzog's historical tale "Queen of the Desert" and "Animal Kingdom" director David Michôd's "The Rover." And it's the latter about which the actor has shared some tantalizing details.

Catching up with Pattinson as he did press rounds for "Cosmopolis," he filled us in on what we might expect from Michôd's follow-up to his crime drama "Animal Kingdom." Set to shoot next year, "The Rover" boasts some pretty big ideas behind its deceptively simple set up. "It's a kind of a western," Pattinson explained. "It's very existential. It's really interesting. I couldn't really explain to you what it's about but it's sort of about how much pain can the world take and how much disgust and cruelty before love dies. I think that's kind of what it's about." (Cronenberg, who was in the room, chimed in with: " That sounds pretty heavy!")

Pattinson will co-star in the film with Guy Pearce, with the near-future-set story centering on a man who journeys across the Australian outback to find his stolen car, which contains something invaluable to him. However, Pattinson admits that perhaps his description might be a little more highfalutin than the actual movie. "David Michôd's going to read this and be like 'What the fuck are you talking about? It's a crime movie,' " he said with a laugh.

As for when "The Rover" is coming out, Pattinson admitted it is later than he originally wanted. "I wish it was shooting this fall," he said. "I was supposed to be doing this movie this fall but that was pushed to after 'The Rover,' which is a good thing because it needs a ton of work. But I really wish I could move 'The Rover' up. I've got to find something else to do."

New Rob's Film - Queen of the Dessert

The "Twilight" actor will play T.E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia.

Robert Pattinson is attached to play Lawrence of Arabia in Queen of the Desert, Werner Herzog’s biopic of Gertrude Bell.

Naomi Watts is starring as Bell, described as the female Lawrence of Arabia for the impact the English woman had in the Middle East and her work in establishing what would become the modern framework for Jordan and Iraq. She was an explorer, writer, archeologist and political attache and worked for British Intelligence during World War I.

Pattinson will play T.E. Lawrence, the archeologist-turned-British Army officer who played key roles in Middle Eastern revolutions in the same time period and became close friends with Bell. Peter O'Toole earned an Oscar nom for portraying the explorer in the 1962 classic Lawrence of Arabia.

Herzog wrote the screenplay. Nick Raslan is producing with Cassian Elwes. A fall shoot in Jordan and England is being eyed.

The move keeps Pattinson firmly in the world of independent film. One of the world’s most recognizable stars, the actor is this week promoting Cosmopolis, his drama directed by David Cronenberg. He is set to star with Guy Pearce in the postapocalyptic indie The Rover as well as Mission: Blacklist, an indie thriller about Saddam Hussein’s capture.

Directed by Crazy Heart helmer Scott Cooper and set in genteel fifties Virginia, Lie Down will have Stewart play Peyton Loftis. As part of a dysfunctional and disintegrating family, Peyton is constantly compared to her crippled sister, Maudie, and her intense physical beauty makes her the object of her frigid mother’s jealous hatred and the target of her father’s incestuous, alcoholic lust. (Stewart will also appear in another fifties-era film, Walter Salles's On the Road, when it's released in the U.S. sometime this fall/winter.)

The part of Peyton had been coveted by Jennifer Lawrence, but Lawrence will spend the better part of the next year shooting sequels. (Catching Fire ignites this fall, while a new X-Men film at Fox commences shooting in January.) Set up at Open Road Films, Darkness has been in development for years by producer Jeff Sharp (You Can Count on Me, Proof) and while it’s unclear how soon it might start production, this is a major casting hurdle cleared.

Kristen Stewart is attached to Lie Down in Darkness, Open Road Media’s planned adaptation of a 1951 William Styronnovel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) wrote the script and is attached to direct what is described as a Dickensian and Dostoyevsky-like heavy drama that charts the rise of a Southern family. The family includes Milton Loftis, a drunken patriarch who lusts after one of his two daughters, a frigid mother and the aforementioned daughters -- one beautiful, the other a cripple.

Stewart would play Peyton, the tragic beauty.

The Twilight star's involvement is only an attachment at this point because the project is not financed and has no start date. Sources say financing likely will hinge on the casting of the male lead. Oscar winner Colin Firth was attached to the part at one point, but that is no longer the case, according to sources.

Stewart is coming off of Snow White & the Huntsman, which was a modest hit for Universal this summer. While the studio has hired David Koepp to write a sequel, it's unclear if that movie would happen before or after Lie Down, should it get financing. Stewart next will be seen in November's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II, the final installment of the mega-grossing vampire franchise. She also has On the Road, based on the Jack Kerouac novel, which premiered at Cannes in May but does not have a set release date in the U.S.

UPDATE: A source close to the project cautions that the development is at an early stage. "While its exciting to see all the interest the project is generating, the film is still in the pre-production process and no offers to cast have been made as of yet," says the source

Rob's New Role - "HATE MAIL" SPOILER!!

Okay guys.. I've been searching for Rob's another film "Hate Mail" and I found this on HL.. Here' the article

Hollywoodlife Robert Pattinson hasn’t slowed down since the Twilight franchise, and now he’s reportedly signed on to a new movie with Scarlett Johansson called Hate Mail. HollywoodLife.com got an exclusive look at the script and although we don’t want to give too much away we have a few spoilers for you!

The movie is similar to that of Love Actually and Valentine’s Day in the multiple characters and storylines throughout the film that (in a way) come together at the end. However, a romantic comedy this is not. The film focuses on how different characters react to hate mail and it definitely has its dramatic moments. Here is a brief breakdown of the main characters. Our best guess after reading the script is that Rob will play Josh and Scarlett will play his girlfriend Kate, but there’s also a chance he could be Joel.

Kate (late 20s) and Josh (late 20s):
Kate and Josh are two good-looking actors in a serious relationship. They are starring in a Broadway show together, and Josh is a little insecure about it because he’s known more for being a movie star than a theater actor. He also finds himself wrapped up in a tabloid scandal, shortly after Kate’s own scandal finishes making headlines.

Joel (early 30s) & Peggy (mid 20s):
Joel is a handsome but awkward guy who has a crush on his co-worker Peggy and tries to work up the nerve to ask her out. He seems uncomfortable in social situations, but has a good heart.

Kevin (early 30s) & Patti (30s): 
Kevin is a war veteran who plays in a garage band. He is still haunted by his past. He currently works as a garbageman and is married to Patti. They have a son named Patrick, 13.

Jay (40s):
Jay is a sports radio show host who acts angry and loud in public but is going through a difficult and lonely time in his life. He has a secret that is unveiled as the movie progresses.

COSMOPOLIS US Release Date

Entertainment One Films US has set a date for David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis." On August 17th, the film will open in New York and Los Angeles, expanding into additional markets soon after.

Based on the novel by Don DeLillo, the film stars Robert Pattinson as a 28-year old financial whiz kid who heads out in his tricked-out stretch limo to get a haircut from his father’s old barber. Along the way, he's joined by a cast including Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Mathieu Amalric, Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Samantha Morton and Paul Giamatti.

The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last month to mixed responses. Indiewire's Eric Kohn said that "'Twilight' fans won't respond to Pattinson's uncharacteristic turn and only diehard Cronenberg fans are likely to spread positive word of mouth" in his review.

Entertainment One is releasing the film in the US well after it does so in Canada and the UK, where release dates are set for June 8th and June 15th, respectively.

Nick Cassavetes To Direct Kristen In Cali

Variety EXCLUSIVE: Nick Cassavetes (THE NOTEBOOK) will direct the gritty action pic CALI, for which Kristen Stewart is set to star. Pic follows a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds who sell a fake snuff film and ride off with a bundle of cash. Years later, the girl (Stewart) must “return from the dead” to save the younger sister she left behind. Voltage Pictures will be selling the film at the Cannes Film Market, and producers are anticipating a late summer start.

Cassavetes is best known for directing the hit Nicholas Sparks adaptation THE NOTEBOOK, as well as the true crime tale ALPHA DOG. Cassavetes is an actor as well, and he most recently appeared in THE HANGOVER PART II. -Jeff Sneider via Variety_JLD

Producer Talks More About Rob and Th Rover

Producer Liz Watts is calling David Michod’s new film The Rover “a dirty and dangerous near-future western set in the Australian desert”.

She confirmed what the Internet is buzzing about: that Guy Pearce and Twilight heartthrobRobert Pattinson are in discussions to play, respectively, a man in pursuit of the people who stole his car and the brother of one of the thieves in Michod's follow-up to Animal Kingdom.

Reluctantly, Watts also added a few more details: it is hoped that The Rover will go into production late in the year and discussions about the project started 18 months ago between Michod and US producer David Linde.

Last year Linde opened the production and financing outfit Lava Bear Films with backing from Reliance Entertainment. At the time the company announced it had a first-look deal with Universal Pictures for the US and other significant international territories. Linde was, at one time, co-chair of Universal.
